Professor Nick Hopkins is Law Commissioner for Property, Family and Trust Law and will be leading work on the reform of several areas of residential leasehold announced in its 13th Programme of Law reform. Prior to appointment as Commissioner he researched and taught property law for over 20 years, and he holds a Chair in Law at Reading University.
Big Ian Donaghy
Author, Innovator & Speaker
“Big” Ian Donaghy has a varied CV that includes roles as Bouncer, Special school teacher, Successful musician, Author, Innovator and Speaker. Now at just under 17 stone (the lowest since the days of Wham he claims) he sometimes misses the additional 12 stone he used to carry around, particularly on cold days.
Writer of the books DEAR DEMENTIA and THE MISSING PEACE, he has also developed initiatives such as “Xmas Presence” to combat loneliness in older people at Christmas. He also created “A Night to Remember” – the UKs largest musical event to raise awareness of Dementia. He has developed a free campaign #Dementiaisateamgame which has involved the likes of the Hairy Bikers, Barry Mcguigan & Frank Lampard
Ian won the Innovation in Dementia Care Award 2018 and is a previous Care trainer of the year.

Chris has been the owner of McDowalls since 2011 having started his professional career as a property manager there in 1999. McDowalls specialises in residential lease extensions and freehold enfranchisement cases; residential private rented sector management; and, property licensing. Andrew graduated in 2015 from Nottingham Trent University with an Honours Degree in Building Surveying, he subsequently qualified as a Chartered Surveyor in 2018 and quickly moved through the ranks with his employers before joining Earl Kendrick.
Andrew started his career as a building surveyor within the residential leasehold sector and he has continued within this sector he has a passion for. Client care is at the forefront of Andrew’s business mind-set and he backs this up with his surveying skills that he continually trains to grow. Andrew has recently trained to become an APC assessor and is an APC counsellor helping the next generation of surveyors obtain chartership

Justin is a barrister at Landmark Chambers. He is the Deputy Editor of the Encyclopedia of Housing Law and the co-author of Leasehold Disputes, amongst various other publications. Marcus has over 15 years’ experience of working in the Leasehold sector and has managed teams responsible for Property Management, Sales and Marketing, Re-Sales and Service Charges during his career. Sarah has nearly 30 years of experience of working in housing. She has extensive knowledge of all aspects of home ownership and service charges in housing associations having undertaken roles in Circle, Hyde Housing and Metropolitan Thames Valley before joining Anchor Hanover. Sarah is also a Board Member of the National Leasehold Group and a Board Member for Penge Churches Housing Association.
Rob started tinkering with computer and programming before he was a teen and in 2001, aged 13, started a small business doing web development which would become Gigabyte Software.
Early software systems he built ranged from CRMs to contract management systems. It wasn’t until 2007 that he was introduced to the property industry. But for the last 13 years, Gigabyte Software has solely focussed on PropTech solutions.
During this period Rob also completed a BSc in Astrophysics from The University of Edinburgh in which he achieved a First-class honours.
Claire Cooper (née Power-Hynes)
Head of Home Ownership (Property Management), Optivo
Claire has 10 years’ experience working in affordable housing including a year spent working for a private sector registered provider. She is currently responsible for delivery of a specialist property management service to approximately 6,000 homeowners across London and the Midlands. Claire holds the MIRPM accreditation and is working towards MRICS accreditation.

Julian became a member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors in 2004 working for seven years largely in the residential sector. In 2010 he founded Earl Kendrick to build a team of talented surveyors serving a wide variety of clients, across the country.
Over the years, Earl Kendrick’s geographical reach has expanded from London to Manchester, Bristol and Brighton and the group also has a designed based practice in the Cotswolds. Kevin has over 10 years’ experience in the leasehold management sector. This includes expertise in managing shared-ownership homes in a wide-ranging portfolio of property types throughout London. Previously with A2 Dominion and Hastoe, Becca is a key member of the National Leasehold Group and sits on its Executive Board. She has been on the NLG Conference steering group for many years and chaired the event in 2018. Becca is well respected as an expert in all things Leasehold.
Deputy Ombudsman, Housing Ombudsman Service
Emma’s background is legal having spent many years working in a legal aid practice. Following this she worked for a Local Authority in the Housing legal team and became interested in seeking a resolution to disputes that was fair to both sides, as opposed to advocating for rights.
She joined the Housing Ombudsman, initially as an Adjudicator, investigating complaints from residents. She is keen to promote learning from complaints and now leads the new Quality, Engagement and Development function at the Ombudsman. The team is increasing transparency into the work of the Ombudsman, promoting learning and engagement, and shining a light on areas where the sector could do better. She is committed to providing a fully proactive Ombudsman service, promoting sector improvements using learning from complaints. Emma is an accredited mediator.

Natasha is a Senior Housing professional with over 25 years’ experience and wealth of strategic knowledge gained in housing associations and the private rental sector.
Natasha is responsible for a portfolio of 9000+ and the management of homeownership services, including Shared Ownership, Leasehold Freehold, Resales and Staircasing. Extensive experience in setting up new housing services and transforming services. NLA accredited and a former CIH Yorkshire and Humber regional panel member.

Anthony has been working in financial services for 19 years and has spent the last 12 years at Censeo Financial specialising in affordable housing.
Over the years, Anthony has helped thousands of people get onto the property ladder using his knowledge of the Shared Ownership mortgage market. With his experience of affordable housing and mortgages, Anthony is often called upon by lenders and housing associations to provide advice on new products and processes.

Alanna is a Chartered Psychologist, a coaching psychologist, and a Registered Member of the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC). She is an experienced coach, facilitator and trainer who is passionate and dedicated in working with people to promote and help facilitate wellbeing, learning, people development and constructive change in their lives.
She has conducted research on the coaching relationship, and more recently on video-mediated coaching. Alanna regularly presents at national and international conferences, and has multiple publications on coaching topics including five book chapters.

Michael takes his down to earth and transparent approach as the foundation for building strong relationships. Jonathan has worked in the affordable housing sector for more than 15 years, operating at Executive level since 2016, and has an extensive background in developing and delivering new homes with a particular personal interest in rural housing and the long term sustainability of rural communities. Shaun is a Chartered Safety and Health Practitioner and Chartered Building Engineer with over 25 years of experience. Shaun leads a team of advisors and surveyors providing risk management services across the property management sector. In addition to his day job Shaun is a visiting Scholar at the University of Greenwich, a member of ARMA and IRPM health and safety committees, a member of the HSE Myth Buster Challenge Panel, and a Member of the Policy and Standards Committee at the Institution of Occupational Safety & Health. James Paul MRICS is a chartered building surveyor with experience in the commercial, residential, education and health sectors. He has particular expertise in insurance and reinstatement cost assessments. In 2019 he set up EK Reinstatement Cost Assessment™ Ltd with Julian Davies. This is our dedicated service line devoted entirely to insurance valuations, and calculating Declared Values for buildings insurance purposes. Adrian has worked in social housing since the early 1980’s and became involved in low cost home ownership in the late 1990’s. He joined Centra Living (a part of Circle Housing Group) in February 2012 and was responsible for the management of 13,500 leasehold and intermediate housing properties, for the nine Group partners.
Following the formation of Clarion Housing Group in December 2016, he was appointed Head of Service Charges. He is an active member of the National Leasehold Group. He is also a member of the CIOH, RICS and IRPM. He is also a board member of Southwark’s newly formed Homeowners Agency.

Dr Alison Wallace
Research Fellow, Centre for Housing Policy, University of York
Alison has 20 years’ experience of housing research with expertise in sustainable homeownership and affordability. Prior to joining academia she was a social housing practitioner in London. She has written several reports on aspects of shared ownership relating to people’s ability to move or staircase, housing association and shared owner experiences of managing shared ownership property, and shared ownership markets outside of London.
Alison will draw on recent work for the NLG on shared ownership housing markets to discuss the MHCLG proposed changes to shared ownership and leasehold reform.

Tim joined RHP in 2017 and heads an ambitious development programme and sales team, also leading on innovation across the business.
